Though not quite a household name like Phil Ivey or Gus Hansen, the online player named “leathera$$” or “leatherass” is a highly respected player in the poker community.  His real name is Dusty Schmidt and unlike his more famous counterparts, he doesn’t necessarily sit at the biggest poker games not does he actively seek out publicity. Ivey Takes $670K from Durrr in One Session

It is no secret to anyone who railbirds the high stakes cash games on Full Tilt Poker that Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and Phil Ivey have had some monumental cashes on a daily basis.  However, yesterday Ivey took Durrrr for over $670,000 in a single day.  Ivey beat him for $289,000 playing Pot Limit Omaha and another $380,000 playing Mixed HA (Pot Limit Omaha and Pot Limit Hold em.)  Half of the amount won by Ivey occurred in two key hands. Top Pros Now Playing MicroStakes Games at Full Tilt

News around the message boards are buzzing that Full Tilt pros such as Scott Hishmann and Paul Sexton have been spotted playing in microstakes games on Full Tilt Poker. Fishmann was playing 0.05/0.10 while Sexton was playing 0.10/0.25.  Speculation abounds as to why players of this magnitude would be playing with regular folks.  Have they gone broke or are they living up to a Full Tilt contractual agreement? 2009 WSOP Tournament Schedule

Hot off the presses, the World Series of Poker has just announced it’s full lineup for 2009 tournaments.  One major change sure to be the buzz of the poker world is the announcement that the Main Event, formerly a $10,000 buy in event will now be $40,000 to buy in.  It is the hopes of tournament directors and poker pros alike, that this change will bring in fewer players and allow a top professional to reclaim the top spot. Gus Hansen Takes Down Largest Pot at Full Tilt

Amarillo Slim Beaten and Robbed

News broke last night that 80-year old poker legend Amarillo Slim was robbed and assaulted in his hometown of Amarillo, Texas.  Allegedly, the former World Series of Poker Champion was attempting to obtain collateral on a debt owed to him.  The debt he was owed was $3,000 and he was merely trying to collect some kind of down payment on the amount.  According to Amarillo Police Lieutenant Jim McKenny, Slim met his assailant at [click to continue…]

Negreanu Bankroll Challenge – Turn $10 into $100K

Similar to what Chris “Jesus” Ferguson did when he attempted to create a bankroll from nothing several years ago, Daniel Negreanu is well under way with a personal $10 challenge in which he is seeking to turn his $10 into $100,000 in about 3 years time.  Playing exclusively on PokerStars, the poker pro began with $10 at $0.01-$0.02 and not moving up in limits until I he has 500 big blinds for the next limit bump.  For example, if and when he manages to reach $25, he will be able to move up in stakes to $0.02-$0.05. Phil Ivey Loses World’s Largest Coin Flip
